My Oldest Daughter Goes to College Tomorrow

We knew this was around the corner but, now that we're about 24 hours away from her moving into her dorm, the reality is starting to set in.

This is going to be a tough one. It's the first time either of our daughters won't be living at home and I know it's going to sink in multiple times over the next couple of weeks. However, I am choosing to put this in some perspective.

For one, she is going to be learning how to be a responsible adult by getting a chance to make decisions for herself. However, she'll also have a bit of a safety net since the college has everything from advisors to therapists at her disposal. And I am going to trust that we did a great job preparing her for that.

Plus, it's only college. Sure, it's 250 miles away, but there are plenty of other 18-year-olds who are enlisting in the military and looking at the possibility of being shipped thousands of miles from their families and put in situations where their lives are on the line daily. So, in comparison, I can at least say she's not doing that.

Anyway, wish all of us luck. It's going to be a big change for everyone.
