My Thoughts - Young Sheldon: Legalese and the Whole Hoo-Ha (12/8/2022)
Synopsis: The university is interested in Sheldon's (Iain Armitage) database idea, but his parents are upset to find out President Hagemeyer (Wendie Malick) wants 90% of the profits. The church threatens to make trouble for Connie (Annie Potts) if her new video store continues to rent movies they find offensive.
My Thoughts:
The percentage might have been a little high, but I don't think President Hagemeyer was out of line. The university is giving Sheldon a free education and essentially making an investment in him. It would also be covering the costs of building the database. It's no different than when the university wanted the lion's share of the guidance system he and his friends developed in The Big Bang Theory.
Dr. Linkletter (Ed Begley Jr.), on the other hand, is just trying to get money he doesn't deserve. I'm not even sure how he proves he is entitled to money.
I'm not surprised by the church's reaction to the movies in Connie's store. However, I am a little curious why it is only a problem when she owns it. It's not like she just opened that store, someone else had it first and nobody noticed the movies it was renting under the previous ownership?
Plus, shouldn't the church be boycotting it already? They practically kicked Mary (Zoe Perry) out of church and are shunning her and her family. It would seem like a store that is owned by her mother and employees her son's pregnant girlfriend (or whatever she is to him now) would be included in that shunning.
In any case, it is funny seeing Georgie (Montana Jordan) being the one with the most common sense. They are, after all, running an illegal gambling business in the back. The last thing they need is a lot of attention.
What happened to Pastor Jeff's (Matt Hobby) wife? Robin (Mary Grill) hasn't been seen in quite some time now, just occasionally mentioned, along with his kid. I am starting to wonder if maybe she left him and he's too afraid to let people know since he's already been divorced once.
Final Opinion: It wasn't my favorite episode because I feel like the university wasn't in the wrong and the church boycott should have happened long before Connie took the store over. It was too bad this was the one that aired after the mid-season break.
My Grade: C
