Check Engine Light (A Poem)

I’m not in mint condition anymore.

If I were a car, I’d probably be in the bargain lot.

My body is dented, scratched and maybe a bit deformed.

And when it comes to going 0 to 60, I’d rather not.

There are quite a few things wrong with me,

But someone tells me I’m destined for the scrap heap, I just scoff.

That’s because while I might be showing my age,

My check engine light remains off.

Don’t worry, I’m not kidding myself.

I know the wear and tear will eventually take its toll.

After all, when I was younger, I skipped the routine maintenance,

And have been spending my later years digging myself out of a hole.

For now, I’ll keep moving.

I may not move fast, but can still get from point A to point B.

In the meantime, I’ll try to take better care of myself

Knowing it’s only a matter of time before that check engine light comes on for me.
