Chef Boyardee Chicken Alfredo Skillet Meal Review

 

One of our local grocery stores has had Chef Boyardee skillet meals in their freezer section for several weeks and while I've been tempted to buy them on more than one occasion, I usually passed because of the $11.79 price (I can buy the ingredients and make them from scratch cheaper). However, I wasn't really in the mood to do a whole lot of cooking last night, so I finally decided to give the Chicken Alfredo dinner a try.

Overall, I have to say this exceeded my expectations.

I think my youngest daughter described this best when she said it wasn't as good as homemade or from a restaurant but was considerably better than a normal frozen dinner version. While I personally would have liked to see this have a little more to it, such as maybe some broccoli to go with the pasta and chicken, it had a decent flavor all four of us enjoyed.

Preparing the meal was easy as well. You just empty the contents (including four sauce packets) into a pan, add some water and cook until it is done. It took probably about 15 minutes, which is less time (and less dishes) than it would have taken me to make this from scratch.

My only real complaint is one I have with most products like this - their definition of "family size" differs from mine. Fortunately, I knew to buy an extra bag of this when I was at the store because my two daughters ate one of these themselves and I'm pretty sure swiped some of the bag I made for my wife and I (she was at her office doing some sewing, so we ate later in the evening). I did, admittedly, have just enough leftovers from the second bag for lunch though.

Final Opinion: I think it says a lot when my daughters both told me they would like me to purchase this the next time my wife and I have a date night, and they are expected to make dinner for themselves. As I said, it exceeded my expectations, and I would probably consider purchasing this (or one of the other varieties) if I'm not in the mood to make dinner from scratch, especially if they happen to be on sale at the time.
