Movie Review: Terrifier 3 (2024)

Synopsis: Nearly five years after Art the Clown was beheaded by Sienna Shaw, the clown and his new sidekick, Victoria Heyes (possessed by the Little Pale Girl) begin killing again while in search of Sienna and her brother to get their final revenge. Sienna, recently released from a mental hospital, senses her family is in danger but nobody believes her, including her brother and fellow Art the Clown survivor, Jonathan.

Who's in it? The movie stars Lauren LaVera, David Howard Thornton, Antonella Rose, Elliott Fullam and Samantha Scaffidi.

Review: My wife and I once again decided not to go out on Saturday night and instead stayed home to watch a movie. I came across Terrifier 3 on Screambox and decided to do the 7-day free trial to watch it. As it turns out, I probably would have been better off picking a different movie.

There are two types of gore when it comes to horror movies. There's gore that is designed to add a bit of a shock factor and make a scene more realistic. Then, there is gore that is purposely obsessive in an attempt to make people sick to their stomachs. This film fits the latter category, to the point even my wife (who raised two children and works in an elementary school) was feeling a bit queasy.

This was something I probably could have lived with had the movie had even a reasonably interesting plot. Instead, it was mostly just Art the Clown (Thornton) going out of his way to produce as much blood as possible with a weak, at best, story involving demons and Sienna (LaVera) possibly being some sort of warrior angel. What ever happened to something a lot simpler, like just having Art be a psychotic clown or, since he was decapitated in the second movie, a copycat that looks just like him? It would have been much more believable.

The story proved to be so unimportant, in fact, some of the deaths that made the most sense in terms of the plot weren't even shown on screen. Why spend the time getting us invested in a character only to show their body or severed head later?

The movie couldn't even help itself with the ending because, rather than provide any sort of closure, it automatically went into sequel mode. To be honest, I probably will just choose to not find out what happens next.

Final Opinion: If all you care about is excessive blood and gore, this movie is something you might enjoy. If the plot is important too, stick with the Saw films instead.

My Grade: D
